General Summary:

Designs, implements, verifies, validates, and commercializes Wireless WAN (or cellular) modem as a product or component within a product. Works on the implementation of a multi-RAT (Radio Access Technology) cellular modem from industry specifications (most notably 3GPP with LTE and 5GNR). Has experience in the WWAN specifications and can efficiently implement the shared resources of a multi-RAT modem. Works closely with other functional groups to develop a cost effective, high quality and high capability modem that meets industry and customer requirements with high performance (e.g. throughput, latency, power consumption) and acceptable cost (e.g. silicon area, calibration complexity, code size).

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: •    Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field

•    1+ years of experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems.

•    1+ year of applicable wireless, semiconductor and/or embedded software industry experience.

•    6+ months of WWAN modem development specific experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: •    Applies modem knowledge (e.g., RF, baseband, signal processing, computer architecture, communication protocols, VLSI) and design methodology for one area within modem hardware, systems, or firmware to execute modem assignments.

•    Participates in design reviews and project meetings.

•    Works under supervision to develop models and simulations to design a well-defined component; collaborates with peers within team to design products that meet customer requirements and standards.

•    Develops test cases to test/verify design for a well-defined component; identifies observable differences in results; works with team members to validate modem against specifications; tests accuracy, reliability, and robustness of design for a well-defined test plan.

•    Assists with the integration of modem architecture and systems into a platform or product; helps resolve issues during implementation and commercialization with guidance.

•    Writes technical documentation and feature descriptions for straightforward projects under the direction of a supervisor.

Level of Responsibility:

•    Working under close supervision.

•    Taking responsibility for own work and making decisions with limited impact; impact of decisions is readily apparent; errors made typically only impact timeline (i.e., require additional time to correct).

•    Using verbal and written communication skills to convey basic, routine factual information about day-to-day activities to others who are fully knowledgeable in the subject area.

•    Working within prescribed budget and resources.

•    Completing some tasks with multiple steps which must be performed in a specific order; directions or manuals can accurately document the steps necessary to perform the task.

•    Exercising some creativity to troubleshoot technical problems or deal with novel circumstances.

•    Using deductive problem solving to solve moderately complex problems; most problems have defined processes of diagnosis/detection; some limited data analysis may be required. The responsibilities of this role do not include:

•    Providing supervision/guidance to others.

•    Influence over key organizational decisions.

•    Role in strategic planning.
